Harvest Floorcloth

by Andrea Mulder-Slater

We love Autumn here at Jarea Art! Cool nights, warm daytime breezes and lots of apples in the orchards. We spent the afternoon collecting apples yesterday which we brought home and made into pie. There's nothing quite like the smell of warm cinnamon. Am I right?

All of this got me thinking about a wonderful floorcloth we produced for a client in Massachusetts.

It began with a sketch:

From there, we stretched our canvas and began painting. That's Jantje working away on the background.

Once the main background colors were complete, it was time to start laying out the apples. We did this with a nice, bright pink.

We continued by adding more details to the apples, including stems, shadows and shine.

Once the painting was complete, we sealed the cloth and removed it from the frame. We finished the edges and then we had a look at our handiwork.

Here's how the cloth looked in its new home in Massachusetts.

And now, it's time for apple pie :)
