TRI St. Andrews, Year Two

by Andrea Mulder-Slater

Last year we were thrilled to provide art awards for the TRI St. Andrews races and this year, we are happy to be doing it again!

Today, a box arrived in the mail. Inside were stacks of six brand new prints.

Now comes matting and bagging and then... the big event (July 3-6, 2014).

Musical Interlude: Bohemian Like You

by Andrea Mulder-Slater

We've all got a lot going on in the studio these days.

Geoff is finishing up a large line painting which is set to travel West. Jantje is busy putting the finishing touches on some pieces for the annual Folk Art exhibit she organizes at Kingsbrae Garden. I'm just starting the second painting of a new series.

This morning, we needed some peppy music to keep us going and Bohemian Like You by The Dandy Warhols seemed to fit the bill.

Enjoy!

DIY/Kids & Creativity: Window Clings

by Andrea Mulder-Slater

Lately we've had a lot of birds flying into our windows and although none have perished, we have had a number of stunned little ones who end up laying on our porch (or flying around in the studio!).

And so, we decided to do something about it by creating some window clings.

This is a great activity for kids (and adults) of all ages. All you need is some plastic (we used paper protectors that you would put into a binder) and some fabric paint. (It's important that you use fabric paint and not regular paint.)

It's a good idea to add a drop or two of dishwashing liquid to the fabric paint before you start using it, although I have to admit, we skipped that step :)

Here's how our window clings came together...

You can find full instructions as well - as the flower printables that we used to make our window clings - by visiting here: http://kinderart.com/crafts/windowclings.shtml

A beautiful partnership...

by Andrea Mulder-Slater

As artists, we are honoured to be a part of the re-creation of the historic Algonquin Resort and we really love the fact that General Manager Tim Ostrem and his team have - from day one - been focused on local talent.

Jantje's recycled hotel cutlery and driftwood sculptures sit as table centerpieces in Braxton's Restaurant.

Some of the cutlery/driftwood sculptures are available for sale in The Algonquin gift shop.

Geoff's line painting of the hotel (used during opening celebrations on March 19th) hangs proudly in the Algonquin's fitness centre.

We are thrilled to have this opportunity to work with The Algonquin Resort...

Culinary competition sculptures

The first NBCC (New Brunswick Community College) Algonquin Resort culinary competition was held on March 24, 2014.

Jantje was asked to design a few themed sculptures to be used as awards for the event.

Using recycled Algonquin Resort cutlery, driftwood from our local beaches and a few added embellishments, she created the following pieces...

Pictured below are some of the winners holding their awards. Congratulations to all!

A special line painting was created by Geoff Slater for the March 19th re-opening of The Algonquin Resort

All in attendance were invited to "autograph" the artwork.

Here are some photos of the creation of the art and of the painting being signed during celebrations held on March 19, 2014 at the modern, hip and luxurious Algonquin Resort.
