Winter Blues (of a different kind)...

With the studio buried (literally) under many feet of snow, we headed south to recharge our batteries and warm up! There's nothing quite like the sights and sounds of blue ocean waves crashing into a sandy shore...

Winter is a time for the three of us to think about new work for the upcoming season. Lots of new ideas are peculating so be sure to look for unique works of art from Geoff, Jan and Andrea this summer.

Both Geoff and Andrea are preparing work for upcoming shows - Andrea this spring/summer and Geoff in the fall of 2012. Meanwhile, Jan and Geoff are both preparing sculptures which will be on display this summer at the Kingsbrae Sculpture Garden. Jan has also been putting together a group of folk artists who will show their work at the Kingsbrae Garden Gallery this July to October.

Jannique too has been hard at work, playing, painting, sleeping and learning everything she'll need to know.

Also, we are thrilled to announce that this summer, we are welcoming two new artists to Jarea -  Gerald Cloud and Jackie Guthrie are both painters.

Fundy Artists Show and Sale

Jantje and Andrea were part of the 8th Annual Fundy Artists Art Show and Sale. This show took place at the Fairmont Algonquin, from Wed July 28 to Sat July 31.

Jantje displayed her folk art boards, paintings and cutlery sculptures while Andrea showed her coffee paintings and new collage works.

The show was extremely well attended and several Jarea pieces sold and went to good homes from across the world.

Fundy Artists Art Show & Sale

Summer is in full swing here at Jarea Art Studio. We have paintings, folk art and more from Geoff Slater, Andrea Mulder-Slater and Jantje Blokhuis-Mulder. In addition, we have stained glass from Wilma Blokhuis, blown glass by Larissa Blokhuis, wooden bowls by Joe Hunt, jewelry and paintings by Cedar Sky and body care products from Juhl Sky. The studio is humming! Depending on which day of the week you visit us, you will find Geoff, Cedar or Juhl hard at work. Be sure to stop in and say hello!

Also, Jantje and Andrea are busy preparing work for the 8th Annual Fundy Artists Art Show and Sale. This yearly event takes place at the Van Horne Ballroom (beside the pool) at the Fairmont Algonquin in St. Andrews. The dates this year are Wednesday July 28 to Saturday July 31, 9am to 9pm daily.

Included in this year's show are paintings, textiles, pottery, sculpture, mixed media collage, folk art and more by artists and artisans from St.Andrews, Beaver Harbour, Deer Island and Seeley's Cove, New Brunswick.

Displaying their work this year are (in addition to Jantje and Andrea) are Paula Cooper-Bertke, Pat Staples,  Barbara Neilson, Morag Walsh, Simone Ritter, Bertha Day, Helen Stanley, Carolyn Cherry and Jerome Andrews.

Hundreds of works of art will be on display, so bring a friend. Admission is free.

Bikers...

Geoff has almost completed the biker portion of his mural by Market Wharf in St. Andrews. The couple on the motorcycle are the very first couple who registered for Atlanticade. Since the bike festival is taking place in St. Andrews this year, the organizers thought it would be a nice gift for the couple to see their faces (and bike) painted on a mural.
