A beautiful partnership...

by Andrea Mulder-Slater

As artists, we are honoured to be a part of the re-creation of the historic Algonquin Resort and we really love the fact that General Manager Tim Ostrem and his team have - from day one - been focused on local talent.

Jantje's recycled hotel cutlery and driftwood sculptures sit as table centerpieces in Braxton's Restaurant.

Line Painting Flower by Geoff Slater

The Art of December - 12/15/13: Line Painting by Geoff Slater

by Andrea Mulder-Slater

This little lily was painted using one continuous line with a beginning, and an ending. Although it changes colour, the line never touches, or crosses itself. See if you can follow along...

Line Painting by Geoff Slater

The Art of December - 12/11/13: Line Painting by Geoff Slater

by Andrea Mulder-Slater

To celebrate the holidays, we've decided to post a photo of a work of art (available for sale in our studio/gallery) each day between December 1st and 24th.

December 11, 2013

Today we have a line painting by Geoff. Geoff's line paintings are painted using one continuous line with a beginning, and an ending. Although it changes colour, the line never touches, or crosses itself.

First, he draws the basic image, however, that is where the planning ends. The line takes shape, as he paints it, with no set path or direction.

Intellectually, the line is one of the most basic elements of art and is nearly impossible to escape as an artist.

Fundamentally and spiritually, the line represents a certain connectedness - a thread that ties objects and individuals together.

Water, trees, land and man-made structures are all linked together.

He creates with line, not as contour, but as a full image, as miles of land, sea and sky are covered in a single stroke.
